My self-limited once-a-quarter promotion:
This just in from our DB2 developer... This exciting new DB2 differences course provides an opportunity for DB2 applications programmers to get caught up with recent developments in DB2. We've put together just the most useful new features and facilities from DB2 Version 8 and Version 9 into a three day, hands-on course: DB2: Greatest Hits - 3 days Sample topics: * SQL statements TRUNCATE and MERGE * Recursive SQL * Native SQL stored procedures * Scrollable cursors enhancements * LOB file reference variables * XML in DB2 and more! Check out: http://www.trainersfriend.com/DB2_and_VSAM_courses/G527descrpt.htm for details (remember: this page includes links to more detailed course objectives and topical outline) Important update training in a short amount of time! ---------------------------------------- Too much time on my hands: Even though z/OS UNIX took a bashing last week, I still find it fascinating in its potential. I've developed a curriculum that lets you host a website on your mainframe without having to buy any software. That is, IBM supplies a free web server with z/OS, and if you are a COBOL shop, you can do the work with COBOL. No need for WebSphere, Java, etc. (unless you are moving to a more complicated environment by choice; even then this curriculum might be helpful in the long run). My problem is I have proven the functionality but I can't test the performance. Many people said z/OS UNIX performance was terrible; others pointed out it's gotten better over time. The system I use for development and test is just running on a ThinkPad so I can't really speak to that. I would be interested in working with some company that would be willing to try out some of this stuff on a real z Series machine to look at performance. Anyway, here's the complete recomended series of courses (some can be omitted if the student has the appropriate knowledge already): 1. Enterprise COBOL Update I: Essentials - 2 days 2. Using LE services in z/OS - 3 days 3. Enterprise COBOL Update II: Unicode and XML support - 2 days 4. Introduction to z/OS UNIX - 3 days 5. You and z/OS and the World Wide Web - 5 days 6. Introduction to CGIs on z/OS - 1 day 7. Writing z/OS CGIs in COBOL - 2 days Kind regards, -Steve Comstock The Trainer's Friend, Inc. 303-393-8716 http://www.trainersfriend.com z/OS Application development made easier * Our classes include + How things work + Programming examples with realistic applications + Starter / skeleton code + Complete working programs + Useful utilities and subroutines + Tips and techniques ==> Check out the Trainer's Friend Store to purchase z/OS <== ==> application developer toolkits.
