Well, I also agree with your guys too. But unfortunately, my assignment is to explore a do-able way to migrate off the mainframe. Client says,'We lack of mainframe skills. IMS not flexible to add a field. Migrate IMS to RDBMS involves re-write of programs. If so, why don't we move to midrange platform?' Of course, JDBC Type 4 is not as good as natiive access. But if the update volume is not too high, and service level acceptable. That will probably be a do-able method. That is why I hope to find some reference that are doing similar thing.
However, I may have to prove to my client that it is simply not wise to do distribute the database across different platform and try to maintain one logical copy of the database in the first place.
