I can't think of any show stoppers, however, some items to be aware of (they should all be in the migration manuals).
JES2 $ACTIVATE. This adds some control blocks to the checkpoint. It was available IIRC at z/OS 1.4. Of course sharing spool is "unsupported" between 1.4 and 1.9. I presume you were considering spool offload/reload and/or NJE as a migration mechanism. JES2 exits may be a bit of work. There was a major rework of the JES exits somewhere in the range (1.7?). What used to be one exit now has a "corresponding exit". One runs in the JES address space, the other in the user address space. TN3270 separation is a another possible issue. This is required at 1.9, but I am not sure 1.4 can do this. HTH, <snip> I've got a 1.4 system that needs to be upgraded to 1.9 before we get our new z10. Rather than going from 1.4 to 1.7 and then to 1.9, I'm considering going straight to 1.9. I've already got the 1.7 compat and fallback PTFs on the 1.4 system but I don't really see the benefit to migrating to an unsupported OS. I did something similar a few years ago when I took the OS/390 2.9 system to z/OS 1.4 in a single step. It's a pretty straightforward set up. No sysplex or shared resources. Not much USS or anything like Java or web enablement. There are a number of usermods that will probably have to be reworked but I had to do that last time. Only 3 JES exits. Does anyone know of any gotchas or showstoppers? </snip> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
