It should help you. to answer your questions: 1)Must I have enough free racks to allow above commands to proceed without any problems? a1) rmm assumes the rack number matches the volume when it finds there is no rack number defined. Your command specifies POOL(D*) - so rmm will look in that pool for a rack number and find the volser matches. 2)I heard that too many racks will cause rmm perform not optimally.Can I removed racks when they are occupied by volumes? a2) I recommend that when the rack number and volume are the same you do not define the rack numbers - rmm assuems they match when a rack number is not defined. 3)Can a volume be defined without any rack accompnied for non-system-managed library? a3) you can always define a volume without a rack number - rmm assumes the rack number matches the volume. You only need to define rack numbers when you want the number to be different than the volser.
