The reason is that the line drawing characters use the APL character set. When you paste to another application, it does not know how to handle the those characters so they display as the corresponding ASCII characters at the same position in the character set. Some emulators convert the lines to Unicode line drawing characters in the clipboard so they paste properly. Screen printing may do the same thing. I do not know if you can get PCOMM to covert those prior to pasting.
