We track updates to VSAM records within specific datasets using a product
called CA-FileSave to get before and after images of VSAM records.
http://www.ca.com/us/products/detail/ca-filesave-rcs-automated-recovery.aspx
We do this because we take a DR backup IN THE MIDST OF CYCLE PROCESSING. We
simply cannot take the time to needed to do the backup after cycle is complete.
The file is not in use at the time of the backup, but the backups of various
files are not in sync. CA-FileSave logs the before and after images. So we can
restore the backups (which are not in sync) and apply the CA-FileSave logs to
get an end of cycle synchronized image of all files. It's tacky, but it does
work for us.

Personally, I don't like it. But management doesn't really care what I like or
don't like.
