Thanks for all of the humorous and semi-humorous replies. Given that I don't believe that we are going to be able to supply the current proper host for the DS6800 console, I guess what I was asking was if a work around for this problem would be possible. Otherwise, as I see it, I have two options: hope that the customer can supply their own dc7600 PC so that we can send the hard drive from ours (with the configuration on it) to them or have the customer supply some other model PC, have IBM install the DS6800 console software on it and hope that it works with the configuration files from our PC sent to them via a CD or DVD. My question is, has anyone tried this and if so, did it work? This probably isn't any different than having the DS6800 console PC break and having no other PC of the same type, be forced to "upgrade" to a newer PC, reinstall the console software and hope that it will work with the old configuration file(s). I am kind of surprised that IBM would depend on an independent system to host configuration files for the mainframe as that sort of becomes the weak link. Maybe I don't know enough about the system but it would seem that it would be better to have the DASD configuration on the z10's hard drives. Karl Severson Raytheon Company
