John, I don't see the relation of this subject with that period of history and I find your remark a little creepy. Referring to the USSR, DDR or more eastern countries would probably have been more appropriate. And your German grammar is a little rusty. (Was nicht erlaubt ist, ist verboten).
If you think I am from Germany, I am from the Netherlands. But even then, this has nothing to do with hiding or revealing information. There are cases where you want to keep information away from people, just in case they use it in a way you did not forsee and if you had, you would have hidden it. E.g. people announcing on facebook etc. first where they live and later when they are on vacation. Kees.
