Joel C. Ewing is right, and I was one of the principal offenders.

The supported values, prefixes, and abbreviations are

2^10, kibi, Ki
2^20, mebi, Mi
2^30, gibi, Gi
2^40, tebi, Ti
2^50, pebi, Pi
2^60, exbi, Ei

Thus, for example,

mebibit, mebibyte are correct; but mibibit, mibibyte are not.

Care is, however, required. Mibit, Mibyte are correct; but mebit,
mebyte are not.

The distinction between powers of 2 and 10, e.g., between 2^10 = 1024
and 10^3 = 1000 is not a piece of idle pedantry. It is indceed
acquiring greater importance as larger units, which have larger
percentage discrepancies, come into significant use.

o 1000/1024 = 0.9765625

o 1000000000/1073741824 = 0.9313225
