That is a copy of the reference I provided. PL/I - yes, you can run. COBOL
specifically states this restriction:
***********************************************************************
Execution of applications written in the following languages is
not functionally supported on z/OS.e:
COBOL (except for precompiled COBOL DB2 stored procedures
and other precompiled COBOL applications using the Language Environment
preinitialization interface)
***********************************************************************
*disclaimer - I don't really understand when / why / how the LE
preinitialization
interface is used, but your typical COBOL program won't be using it.
