It is indeed the price of some trivial, off-the-shelf µcode changes; and these changes are not very size-sensitive. A [small] flat charge would have been more appropriate. I said here on another occasion that some microprocessor assembly languages had clearly been designed to discourage their use; but here we have something subtler: this scheme will produce some high-margin revenue too.
