But there is no equivalent of the SPACE parameter in scripts for any
of those environments that I have seen.  It appears to be more like
something done under the covers by DF/SMS in z/OS and solely under the
control of the systems administration groups.  So far as I can tell,
other than making requests for a big quota, the application developers
don't need to deal with space allocation in the other environments and
definitely not on a file by file basis.
