I also did try it while sitting at a READY prompt and the next time I tried to 
do 
anything (other than hitting enter), I saw this:

IKJ56620I MVS STOP command encountered. TSO/E session is terminated. 
IKJ56470I MZELDEN LOGGED OFF TSO AT 15:35:05 ON DECEMBER 5, 2012   

I didn't mention it before, but these were z/OS 1.13 systems at RSU1209.
