Yes, there was such a discussion.  Moreover, after consulting the
archives, I must admit that I made similar points during it.

The only thing redemptive about my recent post is that the earlier
ones dealt with much smaller units/prefixes, for which the case I made
this time is a little less compelling.

It is hard to face up to using 'kibibyte' instead of 'kilobyte' after
many years of using the SI prefixes; at least I found it so;  but the
difference between an exabyte and an ebibyte is so significant that I
hope that people who have jibbed at using kibibyte will adopt ebibyte
before they form the habit of talking much about exabytes.
