Jim,

I believe it has to do with dynamic allocation by LE. You may have
CBLQDA(ON). If the allocation is for a QSAM file and the CBLQDA runtime
option is in effect, CBLQDA dynamic allocation processing takes place for
those eligible files. Since it is a temporary DSN Fileaid does NOT have
the DD name defined in your profile. So define the DDname for the temp
dataset in your profile and see if you still get the message.

Hello List,

This is driving me bats so I'm hoping the experts can explain. The ispf
interface for the FileAid/MVS product allocates a temporary work dsn
during certain operations like EDIT, and SELECT, and sends the msg below
to the terminal user. We are aware that the sms dataclass assigned has a
volume count larger than the SG pool, so this msg is valid:

IGD17271I ALLOCATION HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO PROCEED FOR DATA SET
DATLJM4.FILEAID.WF.D13045.T091830
ALTHOUGH VOLUME COUNT REQUIREMENTS COULD NOT BE MET
***

However, it is a nuisance because the dsn is deleted when you exit EDIT,
so if you reenter EDIT, whammo, you get the msg again. We are going to
change the dataclass volume count, so that is not my question.

My question is, if I go to ispf 3.2 and allocate a dsn manually with the
same characteristics, it gets assigned the same dataclass, & stgclass,
but... I don't get the IGD17271I msg. Why not? Also, if I use the 'SAVE
dnsq2' command from option 3.4, it allocates a file with (again) the same
dataclass & stgclass, but again. I get not IGD17271I msg.

Can anyone explain why? Does ispf suppress informational msgs, while the
FileAid application does not?
(I know... next step.... call the vendor) but thx for any input,

-Jim
