In that case it is possible and recommended to have SMSplex=sysplex. However it is also possible to have multiple SMSplexes within a sysplex, and within GDPS. And I mean SMSplex can be cross-plex - yes, it is possible. Multiple non-sysplexed systems can share SMS.
