I would review the Migration volumes and see if there is anything for SMS or CDS in there
The only challenge I ever had with going to a new version of z/OS is if I was running mixed mode (z/OS V2.1 with z/OS V2.3 sharing the same DASD and PLEX) In which case I just needed to make sure that once z/OS V2.3 was in place that I only did CDS changes from the Higher level. And IBM did put in a check so if I did try to do something from a lower level, there messages to let me know.
