Try the other way around.
The "dd" command on Linux can convert ASCII to EBCDIC. Check the manual
page for syntax. (Sorry, I don't remember and would have to look it up.)
Try converting the (test) password from ASCII to EBCDIC and seeing if
that will allow the decryption.
