IMO you were doing fine, Mr Mills. The only thing I might suggest is that you let unearned obstreporosity drop off into the void unnoticed. In addition to being more fun for lurkers who don't care to read such exchanges, surely that'd be more frustrating to anyone hoping for a quarrel (whoever that might be).
