I think NO is the short answer to your question. This sort of problem can
be very frustrating to deal with.
A VVDS is supposed to be an ESDS but it's not . It cannot easily be
modified or have records deleted. Weird stuff happens if you try.
On at least one occasion I have taken a big hammer to the problem and
deleted or moved all files on the volume and reinitialized the damn thing.
If your job involves managing catalogs there was a tool I found very useful
to have around. Catalog solutions it was called .it allowed you to do some
of the things IDCAMS refused to do.
