agree 100% and maybe I'm wandering off somewhat off topic, but;

what could go wrong bit me once when trying to help a teammate with a CA product upgrade, his CA90's INIT routine was not updated with the new version, so the product was not working, I found the issue and offered a solution, only problem was attempting to REINIT a routine that was not INITED caused reoccurring abends, I don't recall the exact abends, but any address space creation or an address space termination caused an abend to the point where nothing would start, IPL was the only solution :(

No doubt you will still miss some failure modes, but looking for them and
developing ways to deal with them will pay off in the long run.

The premise is "what can possible go wrong" is the foundation for too many

I was working at an HMO in California and troubleshooting a networking problem
with the Network Control dudes. One of them thought that reseating a token
ring cable would fix the problem. As he was reaching down I formed the word
STOP when he deftly unplugged the cable and said, โ€œThis will only take a
second.โ€ In which second he took down all the call center 3270โ€™s across
Southern California. He said it was only a brief interruption.

Management disagreed and instituted the NO cable work except during a weekend
window with a change record even for troubleshooting.

figure things out. The controller lost power, however briefly, and
IML'd itself. The next day, the controller had been moved elsewhere.
