Chromebooks are not a bad idea. But they would require an earth-shattering paradigm shift for the desktop/workstation support staff. There was long since retired manager whose attitude was "If it does not contain a Windows component, you aren't done yet". (Sometimes substituting Linux instead of Windows if backed against the wall)
