The text gives some history and mentions "heuristics" with little technical
explanation.  More information must be available (after all, it's open source).
But so far, I don't know how profoundly different the techniques are, nor
what their comparitive strengths may be.

Both programs are of good quality and suitable for everyday use.  I
use each in various situations.
