In the day, there were no password rules, and TSO accepted logon in a single
transaction, "user/password", all type in a displayable field. An intelligent
but
rebellious co-worker used "/" as his password to minimize hand motion:
"user//".

Another co-worker, new to VM, managed to set an 8-character password,
embedding an "@". But CP had TERM LINEDIT ON prior to logon. He
couldn't protect the '@' with '''" because ABCD"@XYZ wouldn't fit in an
8-character field.

Bad habit of IBM: Users usually can't enter generic DSNs or SYMBOLICRELATE
of more than 44 characters even though they might be resolvable to a valid 44
characters. "*" simply shouldn't count against the 44-character limit because
it
might resolve to ''.
