Hi
We area also around here (i.e. convert 3390-3 or 3390-9 to 3390-27), my
question is about the performance.
Our DS6800 has no PAV, but we have a large number multivolume extended
ZFS datasets.
From the handling, backup etc, it would be better to have a 3390-27,
but from performance point of view ?

Peter,
You cannot convert a 10017 Cyl 3390-9 to a 32760 Cyl 3390-9.
You can use DFSMSdss or similar to physically copy from a 10017 Cyl to a
32760 Cyl volume, and this must be followed by a REFVTOC so the VTOC is
aware of the new volume size. You cannot merge three volumes into one unless
you do logical dataset copies.
Another option would be to copy from 3390-9 to 3390-A of the same size and
use Dynamic Volume Expansion to dynamically increase the size of the 3390-A
as required. There is no rule or requirement for a 3390-A to be any specific
size or have an extended Addressing area.
Have a look at FDRPAS if you need to do this dynamically.

Subject: Re: [IBM-MAIN] Dasd - Converting from Mod-9 to Mod-27
It is a two step process:
The first is configuring the volumes on the DS6000. Are you
installing a new
DS6000 and moving data from existing DASD to the new box or are you trying
to combine existing -9 volumes (and possibly unused capacity) into a
single -
27 volume?
The second is moving the data from the current location(s) to the new
larger volume. Are the source volumes system volumes (SYSRES, page,
spool, catalog, etc) or do they contain "user" data.

Subject: Dasd - Converting from Mod-9 to Mod-27
Hello,
We are having DSS6000 storage box. This is just an informational query
on how we convert a Mod-9 volume to Mod-27 ? Can this be achieved
dynamically when the Dasd device is online or Else an outage is
required for this conversion process ?
Any ideas or suggestions are highly appreciated.
/Peter
