(but I can see why since it can be a bit overwhelming when applying
mass
maintenance). At least ACTION holds are really things to pay
attention
to these days and the other stuff can mostly be ignored if you are
too busy.
IBM has made huge improvements in this area with holds like IPL,
RESTART,
DYNACT, etc. that can just be ignored if you roll out maintenance
with an IPL.

The issue with SHARE (most companies I have worked at do not allow
their applications ) people to go to them, if if they do its once
every 5 or so years when SHARE is in their town.
I do remember when I attended SHARE/GUIDE I went strictly for the
systems "stuff". I do not remember ever having a spare time open to
go to these types of sessions.
*IF* I did I would have shared the handouts . I know I made sure that
the other people in the group got handouts from sessions I attended.
Personally I would have loved to share the handouts and yes I did
give small impromptu sessions on new features that I thought they
could use.
My biggest issue with this is (we had 100 percent COBOL application
types) is that well... they weren't that eager to learn new things.
One session I gave only 2 people showed up. Trying to show them the
latest greatest features of COBOL was well a PITA as when I did give
a small session 5 people showed up and more or less all left before
it was over. Now before you say anything about my "technique" the
feedback was that they needed ideas that would impact their jobs.
I never claimed to be a COBOL person but usually the SHARE handout
was pretty good but our programmers didn't seem to have the spark
that is needed for a good programmer (IMO)>
