Phil suspected problems with instream SYMBOLS-. I envision a couple. Ampersand pairs are not collapsed. That behavior suits Jonathan Scott. I'm less enthusiastic. It makes it tricky to escape evaluation of symbols, and deviates from general MVS convention. Column alignment is preserved, like ISPF convention.
