So the ESTAE works with no arguments...? I'm not sure what the
difference between the "commented out" code and the original is. If
you don't populate the parameter list, the ESTAE "works" and so does
everything else? In the snippet you have a commented
* LR R8,R0
preceded by a not commented
LR R8,R0
so that's a comment, but not exactly commented out. So either you
didn't comment it out, or you didn't show the actual code.

You've already said that there is no storage overlay, so I'm not sure
what a SLIP trap would do for you. There is no SLIP that triggers on a
logic error. Why not follow up on the failing address and instruction
first?
