As new levels of z/OS are released, the HMC (and SE) firmware must be updated to properly show the level. Note that the updates only impact what is shown. Therefore, if you update one HMC but not the SE nor any other HMCs, then only that one updated HMC will show the proper z/OS level. And of course newer levels of HMC can be used with older levels of SEs, at least back to "n-2" for z16 HMCs.
