Yes, both JES3 and PHX-BDT are paid products. Quite obvious IMHO.

Regarding BDT - there is a variety of tools providing so called MFT - Managed File Transfer. By definition an MFT is functionality (just functionality, not a method) of ftp *plus* several things:
encryption
logging (and non-repudiation)
compression
re-connect in case of temporarily broken link
file integrity (you are sure the file was not corrupted in transport)
re-starting of transmission since "last byte" transferred (you uploaded 95% of 100GB file and link has been broken? Then you have to transmit remaining 5%).
etc.

In fact I have never used neither BDT nor Connect Direct, so I cannot imagine what features are so unique to these tools to still use them instead of MFT or just ftp(s).
