My initial reaction was that there were ugly things on both the MVS
and Unix sides; it did not follow MVS rules, but it also lacked many
facilities that Unix users had come to expect. Basically the goal
seemed to be POSIX and X-OPEN certification, and many things not
required for certification got short shrift.
