I started from RTFM. I browsed both Managing Catalogs, Access Method
Services and Advanced Services. No effect. :-(
I hope it is not licensed (and extra paid) knowledge.
Regarding FM, I also use to browse/edit VSAM datasets, but VVDS is
different animal. From the abend code I read I need APF authorisation,
which is not available for FM under ISPF. As far as I remember, good old
DITTO allowed APF mode under ISPF, but restriction was single ISPF
screen (no PF9, etc.).

You could try looking in the z/OS DFSMS Managing Catalogs (SC23-6853) manual.
From what I see there is some information about the records in the VVDS.
Unfortunately from what I can see the information does not give any detail
around offsets and lengths for the fields.
I know I've used File Manager under ISPF to browse Vsam datasets. Not sure if
you could use File Manager to actually browse the VVDS.

Subject: VVDS format and view... and encryption
1. Where can I find VVDS entries documentation?
2. Is there any tool which allow to view VVDS interactively? I'm aware of dss
PRINT TRACKS, it seems that File Manager in batch mode also allow that. However
it is not the same as ISPF panels. What about edit
(change) mode?
3. One of the reasons is key information for encrypted datasets. I have found
key label in the PRINT output, but I guess there's also some key check value as
well. I'd like to find it out and compare to the key residing in CKDS. (Hint:
same label does not necessarily mean same key material).
