When it was first released, all output was to dead trees so "printing" made sense. Displaying it on a screen isn't printing, hence the change to presentation.

External Message: Use Caution Advanced Function *Presentation* or Advanced Function *Printing*? I'd always heard "Printing" (though the acronym was often expanded as "Another ****ing Printer") but Wikipedia and a raft of IBM web pages seem to think it's "Presentation". To muddy the waters further, documents like https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.4.0?topic=streams-advanced-function-presentation-data-stream use the "Presentation" word but then mention "IBM Advanced Function Printing Utilities". Is the "Presentation" word a backroname? Or was it always that? Yes, this matters not a whit in the scheme of things! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
