I can't disagree--at least how it's been implemented, where it's way too 
complicated and unintuitive. You'd think I could ask, "What gets tagged and 
why?" and easily say "Don't do that". Compiled into the shell?! That's insane 
IMHO.

I think file tagging and auto conversion has turned out to be a mistake. 
It sounds good in theory, but every product seems to have a slightly different 
idea about what it means and how it works. There are also unintended side 
effects. The result is that things don't work as expected a lot of the time, 
particularly if more than one product is involved.
