TFM probably doesn't give enough context quite often. When I worked with the
Information Developer for the BatchPipes/MVS manuals she and I made sure as
much context was in as possible.

I do think there is a difference between "Guide" and "Reference" but even the
former has limited context. Probably that's necessary.

That's why Redbooks are so useful.

Always verify that the relevant information is in TFM before saying RTFM. In
fact, verify that it is not hidden away.

External Message: Use Caution

I'm gentler on the "you could've got that from the manual" thing.

I agree, although I think that there are some on the list that are acting as
systems programmers and ask a lot of questions that seem to point to them
seemingly not knowing what they are doing. In some cases I have to wonder if
helping them is actually helping or maybe just keeping someone from getting a
job that can do that work. I believe that we need to help people to learn, and
I try to do that when possible, but I have to wonder about the expertise level
that we are dealing with sometimes.

Just my feeling, but maybe there needs to be some limits on asking questions
that can be easily answered by looking in the manual.

Plus the semi-constant political stuff really does suck eggs. For some reason
it tends to bring out the grumpiness in a lot of people.
