2.  IBM and other vendors rent actual / emulated mainframes usually under
zVM.
Fine, but also not relevant. There is big difference between leased laptop or server and the cloud. An there is a difference between rented z/OS image working somewhere in IBM premises, on bare LPAR or under z/VM and cloud-like service. Hint: in the era before AWS/Azure/GCS there were remote servers to rent.
