My college had a 370/125 and a single 3410/3411 tape drive.  One model included
the head-of-string controller, the other was the add-on drive.

Yes, I used 7330s many times. Slower than a 729, with horizontal vacuum
"columns."  One unusual characteristic: a high-speed rewind was really "high
speed" and ran off the end (actually the beginning) of the tape and sometimes
"lost" a few inches of tape!

They "looked" to be less expensive, but they worked well with 1410, 1401, and
7040 systems (where I used them). They might have been used with other base
systems as well.
