What can anyone tell me about installing and maintaining RHEL on a zSeries?

How do you Install RHEL on a zSeries, etc?

Generally:
1. Learn a bit of Linux concepts.

2. Install Linux on...
a) bare LPAR (IMHO the easiest, but not popular)
b) under z/VM - that require z/VM and z/VM knowledge.

3. DASD
a) You can choose "regular" CKD disk volumes - FICON, HCD, etc. Quite familiar. b) Or you can use FBA devices - FCP channels, new things to learn in HCD/IODF world.

4. OSA
a) it is easier and more flexible to use z/VM facilities
b) assign some OSA chpid for Linux (not shared with other systems)
c) share OSA chpid - IMHO the most demanding.

5. Keep in mind most Linux specialists do not know mainframe HW, so mainframe-specific questions have to be asked to proper forum. IMHO this is the forum (not the only one), despite most of topics are about z/OS.

6. Installation is quite different. No tapes. No driving system. The beginning is similar to z/VM installation process - I mean IPL from ftp server (instead of COD driving system) and the server as installation medium (instead of tapes).
