The CSV550I message was developed many releases before the CDE was extended to contain the address of the CDX. At that past point the CDX did not contain any programming interface information but did exist and contained (and still contains) a lot of IBM-only information. In some circumstances, it helped (specifically, helped me and my colleagues) to be able locate the CDX and that information via the command that produced the message, since the process to locate the corresponding CDX given a CDE/LPDE was on the complex side. When the CDX was created, to avoid increasing the amount of storage used below 16M, the CDE was not expanded and alternate structures were created. But now there's direct access from CDE (and LPDE) to CDX. And, yes, that means that we did finally decide that it was worth it to use that additional storage below 16M (having moved many modules above 16M in the intervening years to help to compensate).
