Finally this is an issue of taste, and tastes differ. Both "absolute performance" and ease of maintenance dictate, I think , different, separately assembled and bound routines for different environments.
It is of course possible, and often desirable, to write a single framing macro that can be used to generate any of a family of routines parametrically, tailoring it to its target environment in doing so.
