YEARS ago we had an application programmer (probably in CLIST) do a
convert to hex or decimal in one statement. I was really surprised
how simple it was.

This reminds me of an experiment of a colleague of mine, several
years ago. He tried to transform a Rexx program of about one screen
of statements into one Rexx statement, using nesting, recursive
programming and other fancy stuff. It took him about a week, but he
succeeded. Of course it was completely incomprehensible what the
statement did, but it worked.
