Jonathan, To make sure I understand.
You have a storage group with GBF and the zFS files are in that Storage Group? When you do an (H)BACKDS or UNMOUNT/MOUNT there are no backups of that zFS file? If the file is mounted READ/WRITE the backup is occurring where that zFS file is mounted? Please note, in the article it states the zFS files are not backed up based on change but based on TIME; unless I am misunderstanding the text. Unlike other non-VSAM data sets that can be opened and closed repeatedly throughout the day, some file systems are often mounted for several days or weeks at a time, with the individual file members inside opened as needed. Normally, DFSMShsm's automatic backup (AUTOBACKUP) processes file systems at most once per mount, so a file system mounted for a week would only have one backup taken for that week. So unless you are always unmounting/mounting the zFS files, you need to either use GPF in your Storage Group for the volumes that have zFS files. Or create a process that issues manual (H)BACKDS more frequently. After this, you may need to open an SR/ETR with IBM HSM to determine what is not quite right with your setup Lizette -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jonathan Miller Sent: Wednesday, September 11, 2013 7:31 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: DFSMShsm and backing up ZFS files Lizette, Yes I saw that article. If I read it correctly DFSMShsm should backup the ZFS files by doing a quiesce. Our files do not have a backup at all. Is this because they are mounted and AUTOBACKUP can't get the quiesce possibly. I am doing some more digging on my end to see what's up. Is there anyone out there who is using DFSMShsm to backup there ZFS unix files and it works with multiple copies after a dataset is changed?
