Hi, Lizette, We are doing a similar proof of concept utilizing DLM with a DD back end. Richard's comments about HSM data and deduping was very interesting and helpful in determining what our expectations should be.
Could you please share your findings or any other information of interest once you gather it? We have three sets of equipment duplicating the data and it was relatively straight forward in the set up. We had some interesting dealings in trying to have scratch reports that would bring about the wanted results of having scratch tapes match due to the fact that, while stacking tapes, we would have datasets that spanned tapes but were not reported as the first datasets on the next tape, as was required by the EMC side of things, so we received errors when the dataset names did not match up with what was expected. The solution was to find a Control-M/Tape report that showed all of the datasets on each tape; as opposed to the the datasets that began on each tape. If you use Control-M/Tape, I will be happy to clarify. I need to know any lessons learned. Any things to watch out for? Any performance considerations? I/O Gen considerations? I do not find a lot of details on how the device works with internet searches. Any guidance will be helpful. My objective is to compare and contrast a DLm8100 with DD990 with the DLm2100 with DD4500. Probably 80% of my tapes are ML2. And I have software encryption. To do a comparison, I will need to address those issues as well as performance. Thanks for any thoughts. So far, you all have provided a lot of good info, I just need this one little bit to be done.
