I think all the Java 5 releases on z/OS were zAAP-enabled -- initial zAAP
support dates back to one of the Java 4 revisions as I recall. So one
indirect way to determine whether there's some relevant activity is to take
a look at RMF Monitor III and see what zAAP-eligible workload there is,
then investigate from there.

There are probably other, maybe even easier ways, but that's one option off
the top of my head.

I think the using the RMF reports is the best way, and likely the most accurate. Remember that you have to set PROJECTCPU in IEAOPTxx to get the system to report on eligible work if you don't actually have a zIIP or zAAP. Tim's right that IBM SDK for z/OS, Java 2 Technology Edition, V1.4 was required originally (with the PTF for APAR PQ86689).

(Also, note there are some configuration options and/or environment variables that affect whether some of the work will be zIIP or zAAP eligible. I haven't got that information handy at the moment.)
