So, in the age of Twitter & Facebook, what are companies doing to keep
the
mainframe growth message alive and directed at 20-30 somethings to
invest
their careers in it?
I see that Marist collge has courses and IBM has several twitter IDs
for
their mainframe business, but is it working?
Time and again, I see this topic come up and it is always the wrong
question. This has nothing to do with the mainframe. This is about
z/OS. I suspect that most people wouldn't consider it relevant if a new
z/series machine were exclusively running z/Linux.
As for Google and many of these other companies, they are certainly
adequate for the markets they are in, what what technology are they
exploiting? Are they demonstrably cheaper to run? Do they require less
staff? In short, what is the basis for even making the comparison?
In my view, this is still the same old argument about the demise of the
mainframe. I've been hearing that for decades, so if it's even remotely
true, then perhaps it's time these advocates delivered something besides
more verbage.
