I regularly vary 1000s of volumes online/offline several times a day, and sometimes several times in a few minutes.
I don't want no steenkin' changes unless the default remains as it is now. I do recall doing this on the z9 was a major pain and slow as watching grass grow, but on a z196 it's all over in a few seconds across four LPARs. The speed of the z9 vary may be the throttling that Tom was referring to. I think it had to do with moving some of the Vary processing from the hardware into software on the z9.
