I like that idea. A simple @uint32 annotation to a comment would solve the ambiguous syntax of assembler types, like XL4.
Much simpler than having to maintain a separate schema.

Word is that IBM are going to offload mainframe log data for InfoSphere BigData solutions into hadoop. It will be interesting to see how they do that, if and when.
