We use Rocket's "Legasuite" screen scraper. (And do the marketing folks hate when I call it that.) It's not cheap. It requires a bunch of developer time to do the conversion, and it's a complex beast under the covers. You must make corresponding changes to the new presentation layer when you make changes to the underlying 3270 application, so that's a development increase you're going to eat forever. But the results are indeed pretty, with pull-downs and radio buttons and calendars and email integration and other RDBs and local scripts and such. Our users are split; some of them love the new interface and find it easy to train newbies, and entrenched users miss the *fast* 3270 emulators with keystroke sequences learned over (sometimes) decades. -- David Andrews A.
