Ouch! I have filenames (not to mention pathnames) longer than that.
For comparison, in the Classic world, that won't even hold 44+8+2.
Is that a concession to the limitations of 3278 Mod 2?

When I saw "WRITE" earlier, I thought "Word" and nattered about
that. In fact wikipedia, which is always right, says:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Write
Microsoft Write is a basic word processor included with Windows
1.0 and later, until Windows NT 3.5. Throughout its lifespan it was
minimally updated, and is comparable to early versions of MacWrite.
Early versions of Write only work with Write (.wri) files, but after
Windows 3.0, Write became capable of reading and composing
early Word (.doc) documents. With Windows 3.1, Write became OLE
capable. In Windows 95, Write was replaced with WordPad.
So, I'm not surprised.
Is this, perhaps, sensitive to filename associations?
Someone here a few days ago suggested freeware Notepad++.
I tried it and immediately made it my default editor for text files.
I'm glad I'm rarely compelled to use Windows. My cow-orkers who
prefer to use TSO have their Solaris files exported via NFS; I, who
prefer not to, have my legacy data sets likewise exported.
