It sounds to me like there is a problem with at least one of the data set(s) you removed. You really ought to investigate that, as they might not be fully usable. It's not unheard of for PDSE directories to get corrupted, for example (that being a fairly likely reason that LLA had a problem with it, perhaps DESERV giving back incorrect data as a result of the corruption).
